SEVIS I-901 Fee

Prospective or continuing F-1 student who is applying for an F-1 visa with “Initial Attendance” or “Initial Attendance-Change of Status Requested” Form I-20 must pay a SEVIS I-901 fee required by the U.S. Department of State prior to his or her visa interview. F-1 student who began his or her program prior to September 1, 2004 and maintained same SEVIS number is not subject to this SEVIS I-901 fee.

How To Pay A SEVIS Fee:

Step 1: Go to <http://www.ice.gov/sevis/i901/index.htm>
Step 2: Click “File the I-901 Form online” (you can also choose either to download the form or to use Western Union Quick Pay)
Step 3: Print/receive a payment receipt and staple it to Form I-20 (recommended)

Note 1: Canadian student is also required to pay even if he or she is not required to apply for an F-1 visa stamp

Note 2: Change of status application (to F-1) will also require payment

Note 3: F-2 dependent(s) are not required to pay a SEVIS I-901 fee

Note 4: If student was out of status for more than 5 months and filing for reinstatement, SEVIS I-901 fee will need to be paid prior to filing for reinstatement
