Scheduling Appointments

ISPS, an office composed of eight staff members, provides services to over 2,800 international students at the UA, as well as international visitors, sponsored student organizations, and prospective students and their parents. Therefore, in order to provide the best possible service and ensure that students have adequate access to meet with advisors, students will need to follow these instructions for making an appointment with ISPS advisors.

Office Hours: 8am-12pm; 1pm-5pm
Office Number: (520) 621-4627
Fax Number: (520) 621-4069
isps@email.arizona.edu

Situations that may require an appointment:
  • Applying for a change in your immigration status
  • Applying for reinstatement
  • Applying for Severe Economic Hardship Work Permission
  • Discussion of options when faced with violation of student status
  • Personal problems
  • Cultural adjustment difficulties
  • Liaison assistance with UA Departments
  • Any situation where you believe more information or personal assistance is needed
Procedures for Making an Appointment:
  • Call our office at (520) 621-4627 or come by the office in person. Ask the Office Specialist for an appointment with an International Student Advisor.
  • You may request to see a specific advisor or simply ask for the next available appointment time.
  • Be prepared to tell the Office Specialist the nature of the appointment. If your reason is confidential, simply state this to the staff.
  • Please phone the office if you are not able to keep your appointment.
Walk-In Advising Sessions versus Appointments:
  • Throughout the year ISPS offers "walk-in" advising sessions. These sessions are limited to about 10-15 minutes per student and are based on a "first-come, first-served" basis. They are typically scheduled three to four days during the week for a three-hour block of time each day. That means if an advisor is able to stick to the 10-15-minute limit per student, he or she may be able to meet with approximately 10 - 18 students during a walk-in period.
  • Walk-in advising sessions are primarily for "quick" questions that do not require extensive review and analysis by an advisor. If you have an issue that requires extensive review, for example, if you are "out-of-status," then you should explain your situation to the front desk Office Specialist, who will try and schedule an appointment for you at your earliest convenience. An emergency situation may also require explaining your situation to the ISPS Office Specialist, who will try to have you meet with an available advisor as soon as possible.
  • If you are fairly certain that you will need more than 15 minutes with an advisor, then a walk-in session is not going to meet your needs. If your "quick question" becomes so, please make an appointment instead.
What You Need to Bring with You:
  • If this will be your first time to our office, please bring ALL of your I-20's or DS -2019's, your passport and I-94 card.
  • For all subsequent appointments, you may need to bring your documents with you depending on the nature of your visit.
